My Unexpected Trip to Pokhara
We are a family of four. For my school holidays, our initial plan was only to visit the Manakamana Temple in Gorkha and perhaps somewhere nearby. However, after we finished our visit to the temple, my father suddenly gave us a huge surprise. He said, 'Let’s go to Pokhara!' We were truly shocked and beyond excited. We never expected our simple pilgrimage to turn into a wonderful trip to the city of lakes!
My family, including my father, mother, and sister, decided to visit the Manakamana temple on Thursday, April 9, 2026. We packed our bags on Wednesday night and went to bed early because we had to wake up at 4:00 AM. The next morning, we woke up early, freshened up, and got ready. We didn't eat anything because, in Hindu culture, there is a tradition of visiting the temple on an empty stomach to show respect to the deity.
We reached the bus park by 5:00 AM and caught a public bus. After three hours of travel, we finally reached the Manakamana cable car station. There was a very long line for the tickets and we waited for about an hour before finally getting into the cable car. After reaching the temple at the top, we bought a flower basket and worshipped the goddess. Then, we went to 'Kale Daiko Restaurant' and enjoyed a delicious Thakali lunch.
Just as we finished our lunch, my father surprised us with the plan to go to Pokhara. We were so happy! We immediately caught a micro-bus and started our journey. This was my third trip to Pokhara. It was my sister's second time. By the time we reached there, it was already evening. We checked into a hotel, kept our bags, and headed straight to the Lakeside area.
We roamed around, enjoyed the view, and clicked many photos. My parents tried the famous 'Matka Chiya' and my sister and I tried it too. It was very tasty! After having a nice dinner at a local restaurant, we returned to our hotel and fell fast asleep because we were very tired.
The next morning, we went to Phewa Lake and enjoyed boating for an hour. We also visited the Tal Barahi Temple, which is located in the middle of the lake. After that, we booked a taxi and went to Sarangkot. The view from there was breathtaking! We saw paragliders flying in the sky and had a full view of Pokhara city and Phewa Lake. We also visited some other famous places in Pokhara. We made some fun TikTok videos and clicked many pictures to capture the memories.
Finally, it was time to say goodbye to Pokhara. We left the beautiful city and headed back to Kathmandu. It was an amazing and joyful trip.
