Supreme Court Dismisses Habeas Corpus Petition Filed by KP Sharma Oli and Ramesh Lekhak

Kathmandu. The habeas corpus petition filed by CPN-UML Chairman and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has been dismissed.

On Monday, a bench consisting of Judges Binod Sharma and Sunil Kumar Pokharel dismissed the habeas corpus petition. However, the court issued a mandamus order stating that the detention period, which was extended for the third time for investigation, should not be extended further.

'In their case, the investigation must be completed within the timeframe granted by the Kathmandu District Court, which authorized a third extension of 5 days effective from Chaitra 21. If a decision on whether to prosecute is reached, it should be followed accordingly. If not, then upon the expiration of this third extended period, the petitioners KP Sharma Oli and Ramesh Lekhak must be released from custody after completing the necessary procedures, and any further investigation must be conducted as required,' the order stated.
