Nepal to Launch New Passport System on July 14, 2026

Kathmandu. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Department of Passports are set to launch a new system to provide passports to Nepali citizens in an easy, simple, and effective manner. The Ministry is bringing this new system into implementation from Ashad 29, 2083 BS.

At a press conference organized at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry spokesperson Lok Bahadur Poudel Chhetri informed that the preparation for the new system is almost complete. He stated that although some minor technical problems may be observed in the initial phase of the system change, passport services will remain regular and smooth.

As per the government's policy, three important steps have been taken to make passport services timely, reliable, and technology-friendly. An agreement has already been made with the Postal Service Department to deliver printed passports to the respective district and local administrative offices as quickly as possible.

Similarly, a process has been initiated to arrange for citizens to apply for passports from any district. Spokesperson Chhetri said, 'The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Department of Passports are committed to providing easy, simple, and effective passport services to Nepali citizens. The passport system is currently being changed and is set to go live from Ashad 29, 2083 BS.'

After the new system is implemented, anyone can apply for a passport from their nearest convenient district or local administrative office, regardless of their location. The government believes this arrangement will make passport distribution more citizen-friendly and organized.
