Nepali Congress Launches 'Jara Abhiyan' Ahead of 15th General Convention

Kathmandu. The Nepali Congress has officially commenced preparations for its 15th General Convention. The party has announced a 'One-Month Root Campaign' (Jara Abhiyan) and has deployed central representatives to all 77 districts. 

Activities in accordance with the convention schedule began following a special orientation program held at the party's central office on Saturday. During the program, General Secretary Pradip Paudel highlighted the purpose and necessity of the 'Jara Abhiyan,' stating that this campaign would prove to be a milestone in revitalizing the party's organization down to the grassroots level. Similarly, youth leader Pratap Paudel provided information regarding the statutes passed by the special convention, the procedures for the deployed representatives, and technical aspects. 

The party has released a schedule to conduct the 'Jara Abhiyan' for one month, from 2083 Baishakh 1 to the end of Baishakh. Under this campaign, special activities will be conducted across all 77 districts and 6,743 wards nationwide. The main objectives of the campaign are to update active memberships, analyze the party's organizational status, and engage in direct dialogue with the general public and youth.

This time, the Congress has implemented new and strict regulations for membership renewal. Within the month of Baishakh, party members from the center to every level must be physically present in their respective wards to mandatorily update their membership. Only members who renew their membership through such physical presence will receive a 'Congress ID.' It has been arranged that only members who obtain this identity card will be eligible to participate in the 15th General Convention process and cast their votes. 

During the campaign, the party also aims to conduct election review programs, carry out social and creative activities, and facilitate and provide guidance on the operation of local governments and the formulation of upcoming budgets. 

For this purpose, representatives deployed from the center have already reached the districts, and preparations to deploy representatives to the wards through district working committees have been completed. 

According to the party's Acting Chief Secretary Krishna Prasad Dulal, the division of work for representatives in all districts of Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpashchim has been completed, and work has already begun. The 15th General Convention of the Congress is scheduled to be held in Ashoj.
