Foreign Minister Khanal Discusses Issues Facing Nepali Citizens in Portugal with Counterpart

Kathmandu. Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal held a telephone conversation with Portuguese Foreign Minister Paulo Rangel on Wednesday. During the discussion, Minister Khanal drew attention to the situation of over 2,000 Nepali citizens facing legal and procedural difficulties due to issues involving fake stamps in Portugal.

The issue has arisen regarding the fraudulent authentication of genuine documents belonging to Nepali citizens there, such as police character certificates.

On the occasion, Foreign Minister Rangel praised the contribution of the Nepali community to the Portuguese economy and assured that he would positively raise the issue of the affected Nepali citizens with the relevant authorities to review it from a humanitarian perspective, the Ministry stated.

During the conversation, Minister Rangel congratulated Minister Khanal on assuming the responsibility of Nepal's Foreign Minister and wished him a successful tenure. Furthermore, they expressed satisfaction with the bilateral relations and committed to further strengthening cooperation in areas including hydropower, agriculture, tourism, infrastructure development, and information technology.
