Complainant Accuses Prosecutor of Shielding UML Secretary Mahesh Basnet in Sexual Assault Case

Kathmandu. Shobha Pathak arrived at the District Government Attorney's Office in Kathmandu on Sunday, demanding the arrest and action against UML Secretary Mahesh Basnet, who she claims has victimized her. Pathak alleged that the Chief Government Attorney, Ramhari Sharma Kafle, failed to process the complaint she filed at the District Police Range, Kathmandu, and is attempting to protect the accused.

According to Pathak, she had filed a complaint against Basnet involving serious charges including rape, infanticide, and sexual assault. She complained that even after the High Court ordered the case to proceed, the government attorney has not moved the case forward.

Pathak stated that the High Court had ordered the case to proceed with additional evidence. Despite her presenting the evidence accordingly, she claims the government attorney has sidelined the case. "Instead of moving the file forward in a case decided by the High Court, the government attorney is trying to protect the accused," she said.

Pathak announced that she would stage a sit-in protest at the government attorney's office premises and would not leave until she receives justice. She stated, "I will not leave here. I need justice. I will not turn back once, twice, or thrice. They can leave here, but I will not."

Pathak accused both the police and the government attorney of negligence in her case. She claimed that although the police registered the case and sent the file to the government attorney, the file has not progressed after reaching there.
