Former PM KP Sharma Oli and Congress Leader Ramesh Lekhak to be Presented in Court Today

Kathmandu. Former Prime Minister and UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli and former Home Minister and Congress leader Ramesh Lekhak, who were arrested on Saturday, are being presented before the court today (Sunday).

Since the court is closed on Saturday, the police are presenting them to the court on Sunday. They will be presented before the District Court Kathmandu via the District Government Attorney's Office, Kathmandu, for investigation while in police custody.

The police have the legal provision to keep both Oli and Lekhak in custody for investigation for up to 24 days. However, the District Court must grant permission for this on Sunday.

Following his arrest, Oli has been admitted to the hospital, while Lekhak is being held at the No. 2 Battalion in Maharajgunj. The police arrested Oli and Lekhak from Bhaktapur on Saturday morning while implementing the report submitted by the committee led by former Justice Gauribahadur Karki, formed to investigate the facts of the 'Jeejee' movement incidents that occurred on Bhadra 23 and 24.

The Karki Commission had recommended investigating and prosecuting then-Prime Minister Oli, then-Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, and then-Inspector General of Nepal Police Chandrakuber Khapung, stating that people died during the 'Jeejee' movement due to negligence and carelessness.
