CPN-UML Secretary Mahesh Basnet Criticizes Kathmandu Mayor's Cabinet Decision on Karki Commission Report Implementation

Kathmandu. CPN-UML Secretary Mahesh Basnet has expressed strong reservations regarding the decision made by the cabinet of the government led by Balen Shah in its very first meeting concerning the report of the Karki Commission formed to investigate the Jengji incident.

Reacting through social media on Friday, Basnet alleged that the decision to form a study committee for security personnel while directly implementing the report concerning the then Prime Minister, Home Minister, and other individuals was 'cunning and conspiratorial'. He stated that such a decision reflects an attempt at political revenge.

Basnet warned that if the government adopts the path of crackdown and political vendetta in the name of implementing the Karki Commission report, it risks pushing the country back towards conflict.

"If the government tries to take political revenge, not only will it face immediate repercussions, but there is also a danger of pushing the country back into conflict," he said.

He emphasized that justice must be equal for all, warning that biased decisions are unacceptable under any circumstances and that strong resistance will be mounted if necessary.

Basnet claimed that some individuals currently serving as Prime Minister, Ministers, and Members of Parliament were involved in inciting agitation on Bhadra 23, forcibly bringing schoolchildren onto the streets, creating a tense atmosphere, and participating in arson and vandalism at the parliament, Singha Durbar, Supreme Court, government offices, private industries, and private homes on Bhadra 24.

He pointed out the necessity of conducting impartial investigations and taking action against all parties involved. Basnet stated that violent activities carried out under the guise of power and the leadership thereof are unacceptable to society, and any step taken without impartial investigation will be prejudiced.
