Bollywood Actor Ranveer Singh to Submit Unconditional Apology in Karnataka High Court Over 'Kantara' Deity Scene Imitation

Bangalore. Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh is set to submit an unconditional apology in the Karnataka High Court on April 10, for allegedly hurting the sentiments of the Kannada community by imitating the famous deity scene from the film 'Kantara'. The actor is taking this step to avoid legal complications following the FIR filed against him.

During the hearing in the court, Ranveer's lawyer also proposed that the actor is ready to apologize personally by visiting the Chamundi Temple in Mysuru.

Earlier in February, the High Court had provided significant relief to Ranveer by directing that no harsh action be taken against him.

This controversy began in November last year at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) held in Goa. On stage during the event, Ranveer imitated the iconic deity scene performed by Rishab Shetty. He faced severe criticism on social media for allegedly mocking the character of the Chamunda Devi shown in Kantara.

In the video, Ranveer praised Rishab Shetty's film while addressing him, but in the process, imitated the deity character, calling it a female ghost. Even though Rishab Shetty tried to stop him, Ranveer repeated the act even after getting off the stage.

Previously, Ranveer had issued a public apology via Instagram. He clarified that his intention was only to praise Rishab's performance and not to hurt anyone's faith. However, the complainant and advocate Prashanth Methal called the apology superficial. He criticized Ranveer, stating that writing on Instagram is different from apologizing in court or in person.

Now, facing increased legal pressure, Ranveer has decided to formally tender a written apology in court.
