Rainfall Expected to Expand Westward as Western Low-Pressure System Develops

Rainfall that has been occurring across Nepal from Gandaki to Koshi for the last three days is expected to expand to western Nepal starting Sunday. According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, Nepal is currently under the partial influence of a western low-pressure system, and the eastward-focused rain will expand westward tomorrow as the system develops.

Meteorologist Rojan Lamichhane informed that the weather will remain cloudy across the country for the next three days. He stated that although it might clear up in the morning, cloud cover and subsequent rain will gradually increase from the afternoon. He also mentioned that another system will develop in the west starting tomorrow.

Meteorologist Lamichhane explained that the high-pressure system will weaken, and the low-pressure system, along with the western low-pressure system, will combine to cause cloudiness. The meteorologists stated this will bring thunderstorms, lightning, and hailstorms. Some places will also experience heavy rainfall.

Some places experienced rain today. According to the data and rainfall measurement details at the department, Sankhuwasabha alone received heavy rainfall (52.2 millimeters) in the last 24 hours. The department reported moderate rain in some other districts and hailstorms in scattered locations.

According to the weather bulletin issued by the department this evening, the Himalayan regions will generally be cloudy tonight, while the remaining parts of the country will have partial cloud cover. There is a possibility of moderate snowfall in a few places in the Himalayan regions.

Meteorologist Lamichhane informed that there is a possibility of light rain with thunderstorms/lightning in a few places in the hilly regions of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, and in one or two places in the hilly regions of the remaining provinces.

On Sunday, Lumbini, Karnali, Sudurpashchim provinces, and the hilly and Himalayan regions of the remaining provinces will generally have cloudy skies, while the rest of the country will have partial cloud cover. The department also stated that there is a possibility of moderate rain/snowfall with thunderstorms/lightning in some places in the Himalayan regions of the country.

The department informed that there is a possibility of moderate rain with thunderstorms/lightning in some places in the hilly regions of Koshi, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpashchim provinces, a few places in the hilly regions of the remaining provinces, and one or two places in the Terai regions of Lumbini and Sudurpashchim provinces.
