Fugitive Prisoner Arrested in Pokhara Six Months After Jailbreak During Protest

Kaski. Police have arrested a prisoner who escaped from the Kaski Jail, taking advantage of the unrest in Bhadra last year, six months later from Prithvichowk in Pokhara. Surya Bahadur Gharti Chhetri, a resident of Machhapuchhre Rural Municipality-4, Lachok, Kaski, who was serving a sentence for robbery, was taken into custody by the police on Tuesday.

He had escaped by breaking through the security cordon during the protest and chaos at the District Jail Office, Kaski, on Bhadra 24, 2082 BS. A special joint team comprising the Nepal Police Provincial Office Pokhara and the District Police Office Kaski was mobilized to search for Gharti Chhetri, who had been absconding for a long time.

Acting on a tip-off, the team located him hiding at Prithvichowk, Ward No. 9 of Pokhara Metropolitan City, at approximately 12:45 PM on Falgun 25. The police immediately took him into custody, completed the necessary legal procedures, and sent him back to Kaski Jail to serve the remainder of his sentence.
