Two Arrested for Robbery and Drug Possession in Jhapa

Birtamod. Jhapa police have arrested two people with drugs who used to threaten and rob the public by posing as plainclothes police officers.

They, who had robbed Tirth Giri, 36, a resident of Sanduwa, Mai Municipality-1, Ilam, and fled, have been taken into police custody.

According to Vijay Chauhan, Police Inspector and Information Officer at the District Police Office, Jhapa, two unknown men stopped Giri on the road at Pingki Thyak, Mechinagar Municipality-6, Jhapa around 12:00 PM on Sunday. Claiming to be plainclothes police officers, they forcibly robbed Giri of 1 mobile phone, Rs 600 in cash, citizenship, health insurance documents, and 1 gold stud before fleeing.

Immediately after the incident, the victim Giri informed the Area Police Office, Kakarbhitta at 1:00 PM. Upon receiving the information, a special police team dispatched from Kakarbhitta started searching for the robbers based on their appearance. During the search, the police searched the room of Pralad Karki, 33, a resident of Bhanutol, Mechinagar Municipality-6.

During the search of Karki's bedroom, 2 packets of a sticky substance resembling brown heroin were found hidden, police said. The recovered substance weighed 1 gram 910 milligrams excluding the plastic. A metal object resembling a gold stud, broken, and the victim Giri's looted citizenship were also recovered from the same room.

Police have taken Pralad Karki and Vishal Baskota, 22, a resident of Kanchanjunga Tole, Mechinagar Municipality-7, into custody on charges of robbery and drug trafficking.

The Area Police Office, Kakarbhitta has filed a case against both the arrested individuals under the provisions of dacoity as per the Muluki Criminal Code, 2074 and the provisions of the Narcotics Control Act, 2033. The District Police Office, Jhapa stated that a five-day remand has been extended from the District Court, Jhapa to further the investigation and a detailed investigation is underway.
