Afghanistan Launches Nationwide Tree-Planting Campaign to Boost Green Cover

Kabul. The Afghan government has initiated a nationwide tree-planting campaign, prioritizing environmental protection and the expansion of green areas. The campaign will run for one month, with a target of planting 19 million saplings across the country.

According to the government, the campaign is expected to not only expand forest areas but also significantly contribute to mitigating the adverse effects of climate change, conserving soil, and reducing the risks of natural disasters.

All citizens, local communities, and government agencies have been called upon to actively participate in this campaign by planting at least one sapling each. Decades of conflict, illegal logging, and other human and natural causes have destroyed thousands of hectares of forest area in Afghanistan, leading to an increase in floods, landslides, soil erosion, and other natural disasters.

The Afghan government stated that it has already planted over 100 million saplings in the past four years. It expressed confidence that this effort will restore environmental balance, conserve biodiversity, and positively impact agricultural production.

Officials have described the campaign as a crucial step linked to the long-term green development strategy, indicating plans to continue the conservation and expansion of green areas in the future.

This campaign is also expected to raise public awareness nationwide, fostering active citizen participation in environmental protection, sustainable use of natural resources, and sustainable development.
