Rastriya Swatantra Party Activist Arrested for Burning CPN-UML Flag in Dang

Kathmandu. An activist from the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has been arrested for burning the flag of the CPN-UML (Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist-Leninist).

Buddhi Bahadur Basnet, 55, a resident of Kalakhola in Tulsipur Sub-Metropolitan City Ward No. 7, was arrested by a team deployed from the District Police Office, Dang, on Friday.

He was arrested on allegations of burning the flag bearing the election symbol of the CPN (UML) amidst a crowd gathered to welcome RSP Chairman Rabi Lamichhane at Birendra Chowk in Tulsipur Sub-Metropolitan City-5, Dang, on Thursday.

Further investigation is underway, and the search for other individuals involved in the incident is ongoing, informed Deputy Superintendent of Police and Information Officer of the District Police Office, Dang, Resham Bohara.

Following the receipt of a video via social media showing some unidentified individuals burning the flag bearing the election symbol of the CPN (UML) during the crowd welcoming RSP Chairman Lamichhane on Thursday, the police initiated an investigation.

The police have also requested all concerned stakeholders to refrain from activities that disrupt peace, security, and social harmony during the election period, and to demonstrate restrained and responsible behavior.
