Supreme Court Orders Appearance of Medical Entrepreneur Durga Prasai

Kathmandu. The Supreme Court on Friday ordered that medical entrepreneur Durga Prasai be presented before the court.

Hearing the habeas corpus writ, the single bench of Supreme Court Justice Shrikanta Paudel ordered his appearance in court. Furthermore, an order has been issued to present the reason for Prasai's arrest. Uma Prasai filed the habeas corpus writ on behalf of Durga Prasai.

Before his arrest, Prasai had filed a writ in the Supreme Court making the Kathmandu Police Range the respondent, alleging that the police were harassing him and attempting to arrest him. After the bench of Supreme Court Justice Nityananda Pandey refused to issue an interim order on the writ filed by Prasai, he was arrested on Monday.

Prasai, who was previously arrested on Magh 23, was released on bail. At that time, the police took his statement based on his remarks regarding the election as the 'basis' for investigation by the police's Cyber Bureau and then released him.

Police have repeatedly arrested Prasai on suspicion that he is about to start a campaign to disrupt the election scheduled for Falgun 21. Prasai, who was also arrested in Pokhara on Magh 5, was questioned by the police and then released.
