CPN-UML Chairman Oli Raises Serious Questions Over Events During 'Genji' Protests

Kathmandu. CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli has raised serious questions regarding the incidents that occurred during the 'Genji' protests. Speaking at an election manifesto public event organized in Kathmandu on Thursday, Oli alleged that the incidents were orchestrated according to domestic and foreign ideologies to conceal his own shortcomings.

Stating that the country faced a political quagmire during the 2079 elections, he thanked the people for giving UML a good mandate at that time. Oli expressed concern that uncertainty has cast a shadow over the country following the destruction on Bhadra 24. He stated that the current election should be viewed as a battle between building the nation or destroying it. Oli mentioned that political parties across the entire society are under scrutiny and raised four serious questions on his part.

First - Was the country developing or deteriorating before Bhadra 23? Was an artificial narrative of a deteriorating country created to spread anger?

Second - Who infiltrated the demonstration on Bhadra 23? Who pushed the youth, who were returning home after the peaceful program concluded, towards the prohibited zone and why?

Third - Were the incidents of Bhadra 23 and 24 spontaneous or planned? Why were private property, business people, and ordinary citizens targeted?

Why were security personnel performing their duties attacked?

Fourth - The government had no demands from the 'Genji' protestors regarding the constitution or the system. Why was the House of Representatives dissolved in a manner that attacked the system itself, as if fulfilling demands that did not even exist? This is not a theory of domestic or foreign conspiracy made to hide these and similar shortcomings. We must seek answers to defend the constitution, the system, and our sovereign arrangement.
