Former PM Jhalanath Khanal Stresses Need to Strengthen Democratic Republic on Democracy Day

Kathmandu. Former Prime Minister and leader of the Communist Party of Nepal, Jhalanath Khanal, has stated that everyone must strive to strengthen the democratic republic.

Issuing a message on the occasion of Democracy Day, he said that the upcoming elections must be utilized correctly to prevent the nation from heading towards a crisis.

Former PM Khanal expressed the view that the so-called new political forces lack any new policies, programs, or commitments in the elections, emphasizing that there is no alternative for the parties that have been working previously other than to correct their past shortcomings and move forward with new resolutions. Khanal stated that the upcoming election should be viewed as another opportunity and challenge for all Nepalis.

Recalling that the democratic process achieved victory by raising the voice of democracy against the autocratic Rana regime in Nepal's history, leader Khanal extended best wishes for happiness, peace, prosperity, and continuous progress to all Nepalis residing at home and abroad on this auspicious occasion.

Former Prime Minister Khanal paid heartfelt tribute to the great martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the movement to achieve democracy, recalling historical achievements such as the democratic revolution, the Constituent Assembly, the new constitution, the new general election, and the formation of a two-thirds majority government during this period. "The country has seen change multiple times due to the sacrifice of the martyrs. Nearly two decades after the establishment of the democratic republic, the country has not yet achieved prosperity. Now, there is a need for revolutionary land reform, modernization in agriculture, national industrialization, and radical changes in education and health in the country," he said.
