French Authorities Raid X Offices in Paris Amid Broad Investigation into Platform and AI Chatbot Grok

Paris. The French cybercrime investigation unit raided the offices of Elon Musk's microblogging website X in Paris on Tuesday. The Paris prosecutor's office stated that this raid is part of a broader investigation concerning the company and its AI chatbot, Grok.

According to prosecutor Laure Beccuau, the investigation initially focused on the misuse of X's algorithm. However, it has now been expanded to cover potential dissemination of sexual deepfakes, child sexual abuse material, and Holocaust denial content. Musk and former X CEO Linda Yaccarino have been summoned for questioning in April. Company employees will be questioned as witnesses.

X strongly criticized the raid, calling it baseless and politically motivated. Claiming it has violated no laws, the company described the raid on its offices as a dramatic abuse of law enforcement. Musk also called it a political attack.

Meanwhile, the European Commission launched a separate investigation into Grok last week. This move comes amid widespread criticism of the tool following allegations that Grok produced a large volume of sexual deepfake images, including those involving women and children, upon user requests, while the tool's widespread criticism continues.
