Preparations Complete for National Assembly Member Elections in Lumbini Province

Butwal. Preparations have been completed for the National Assembly member voting in Lumbini Province. Gehendra Kunwar, Information Officer for the Election Office Dang, stated that all arrangements are set for the voting which is scheduled to begin at 9 AM.

Eight candidates are contesting for three seats here. There are three candidates from the Nepali Congress-CPN (UML) alliance, three from CPN, and two candidates from Janamorcha.

Although arrangements were made for local level chairpersons and vice-chairpersons, as well as provincial assembly members to vote, Deputy Mayor of Nepalgunj, Kamudwan Rai, has resigned. He is thus barred from voting in the National Assembly election. Furthermore, four out of the 87 provincial assembly members in the province will be ineligible to vote. The number of Lumbini Provincial Assembly members has dropped from 87 to 83 after four members resigned to contest in the House of Representatives elections, informed Gehendra Kunwar, Information Officer at the Provincial Election Office. Four provincial assembly members who resigned will not be able to cast their votes.

The four provincial assembly members ineligible to vote include Dhan Bahadur Maski of the Communist Party of Nepal, Krishna KC who was previously in the Communist Party of Nepal but is currently a candidate from the Prolopa Party, Dharmabahadur Chaudhary who was previously in the Nagarik Unmukti Party but is now affiliated with the Ujyalo Nepal Party, and Kanhaiya Baniya who was previously in the Loktantrik Samajwadi Party but is now a candidate from the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP).
