Voting Underway for 17 Vacancies in Nepal's National Assembly

Kathmandu. Voting is taking place today from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM for 18 vacant positions in the National Assembly, 18 of which become vacant starting from Falgun 20, 2082 BS. The Election Commission has stated that all preparations for the voting process are complete.

Election Commission spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai informed that although there are a total of 18 vacant posts, one position in the Koshi Province under the Khas Arya category was filled unopposed, and elections are being held today for the remaining 17 posts. Sunil Bahadur Thapa of the Nepali Congress was elected unopposed for the Khas Arya seat in Koshi Province. Polling stations and centers have been designated in all seven provinces for the voting of the remaining 17 seats.

Polling stations have been set up at the Provincial Election Office premises in Biratnagar, Morang for Koshi Province; at the Mahendra Narayan Nidhi Mithila Culture Center in Janakpur Sub-Metropolitan City-4, Dhanusha for Madhes Province; and at Bhutandevi Secondary School in Hetauda Sub-Metropolitan City-4, Makwanpur for Bagmati Province.

Furthermore, spokesperson Bhattarai informed that voting will take place at the Provincial Election Office premises in Pokhara, Kaski for Gandaki Province; at the Employee Milan Kendra in Ghorahi, Dang for Lumbini Province; at the Provincial Election Office premises in Birendranagar, Surkhet for Karnali Province; and at the Provincial Election Office premises in Dhangadhi, Kailali for Sudurpashchim Province.

The voters for the National Assembly member elections include members of the Provincial Assembly, Mayors and Deputy Mayors, and Chairpersons and Vice-Chairpersons of Rural Municipalities.
