Bagmati Province government's capital expenditure only 8.99 percent in six months

Bagmati, Jan 17: The Bagmati Province Government has spent only 8.99 percent of the capital expenditure in the six-month period of the current fiscal year 2025/26.

According to the Bagmati Province Government's Ministry of Finance and Planning, the provincial government has spent about 14.10 percent of the total budget from Shrawan to Poush (July 17 2025 to January 14, 2026) of the current fiscal year 2025/26, which is 2.17 percent less than the previous fiscal year 2024/25.

During the six-month period of FY 2023/24, the provincial government had spent 16.27 percent of the total budget.

According to Keshav Bhandari, an officer of the Province Government's Ministry of Finance and Planning, during the first six months of the current fiscal year 2025/26, the provincial government has spent 22.48 percent of the budget on current expenditures and 8.99 percent on capital expenditures.

He stated that for the current fiscal year 2025/26, the provincial government had brought a budget of Rs 67 billion 473 million and 27 thousand, of which Rs 9 billion 584 million and 45 thousand has been spent in six months.

According to the ministry, among the allocated budgets, the Provincial Public Service Commission spent the highest at 36.35 percent, the Office of the Chief Attorney spent 30.80 percent, the Provincial Assembly Secretariat spent 29.35 percent, the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Transport spent 28.10 percent, the Ministry of Health spent 26.43 percent, and the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Planning spent 25.91 percent, whereas the Ministry of Culture and Tourism spent the least at 2.30 percent.

Officer Bhandari stated that due to the Gen Z movement on September 8 and 9, many physical structures of the provincial government were damaged, the provincial government bodies were unable to work properly, and the expenditure appeared low as the budget could not be implemented.
