Paddy production declines this year

Bhojpur, Dec 21: Paddy production has declined in the district this year due to adverse weather conditions. The Agriculture Knowledge Centre has stated that the production has decreased due to insufficient rainfall when needed and unseasonal rains after sowing.

Bhojpur produced 37,790 metric tons of paddy last year but its only 36,998 metric tons this year. Similarly, while paddy was cultivated on an area of 12,154 hectares last year cultivation took place in only 11,500 hectares this year. The center has stated that the paddy crop planted on an area of about 78 hectares has been partially or completely damaged due to unseasonal rains.

Paddy cultivation is carried out in the lower reaches and valleys of all local levels of the district. In some suitable valleys, farmers have been producing two crops of paddy a year.

According to the center's information officer, Ghanashyam Baral, the sowing was affected due to lack of timely rains and in some places the paddy crop was destroyed due to flooding.
