The Rise of Golden Milk
How many of you have drunk turmeric milk after getting hurt? This drink is not only given when you are injured, but also when you are suffering from a cold. According to our elders, a mixture of turmeric and milk is a cure for every illness. An interesting point is that recently, this same milk is becoming popular abroad under the name 'Golden Milk'. This drink is no longer limited to our grandmothers' kitchens; expensive cafes and restaurants are also serving it in new styles. Turmeric milk can also help you lose weight. Have you ever heard this before?
Why Turmeric Milk is So Beneficial
Turmeric is not an ordinary spice; it has antibacterial, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory properties. This is why this milk is considered very effective for people suffering from colds, fatigue, and sleep problems. So, does turmeric milk help with weight loss? If you ask celebrity Indian nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar, the answer is 'yes'. She explains that turmeric milk can help reduce weight and keep the body fit. Turmeric and milk together increase good fat, antioxidants, and anti-inflammatory elements in the body, which helps burn fat faster and helps the body heal quickly.
Choosing the Right Milk and Turmeric
To make turmeric milk, Rujuta says that fresh, full-cream milk is best. She states that the best milk is the one that spoils quickly if not kept in the refrigerator, meaning unpackaged cow or buffalo milk. These milks contain no chemicals and spoil quickly. If you do not have dairy milk, you can also use local cow's milk or almond, oat, or soy milk as an alternative. When selecting turmeric, Rujuta advises that the brand does not matter much, but you must ensure its quality is good. If you have natural or organic turmeric, that is even better. She mentions that turmeric grown in the shade of a banana tree is considered the most beneficial.
How to Prepare Your Drink
You do not need a lot of turmeric. Just a pinch of turmeric in one glass of hot milk is enough. This small amount can help you lose weight. To prepare it, you will need one cup of milk, half a teaspoon of turmeric powder, a pinch of black pepper, half a teaspoon of ghee or coconut oil which is optional, half a teaspoon of honey or sugar which is also optional, and a small piece of cinnamon or a quarter teaspoon of cinnamon powder which is also optional. Pour the milk into a pot and heat it on a low flame. Add the turmeric powder, black pepper, and cinnamon, and mix well. Let it simmer for about three to five minutes so all the flavors blend together. Turn off the heat. When the milk is a little cooler, add the honey or sugar. Do not add these two ingredients if the milk is very hot, as the milk could curdle. Finally, pour the milk into a cup and drink it.
