Search for an Alternative to Muglin-Narayanghat Road Begins

Due to recurring landslides on the Muglin-Narayanghat road section every year, discussions have started about finding an alternative route. This new route would go through the areas of Tanahun and Nawalparasi. The Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Kulman Ghising, confirmed that talks are underway to find a solution for this problematic road.

Current Status of the Proposed Alternative

Minister Ghising explained during a press conference on Thursday that while the track for a road in that area has already been dug, the project is delayed because the necessary bridges have not been built on time. Because of this delay, the alternative route cannot be used right now. The minister stressed that these bridges need to be completed quickly.

The Proposed Alternative Route

The minister mentioned that discussions are focusing on whether building an alternative route on the other side of the river would be better than just expanding the existing Muglin-Narayanghat road into two lanes. Currently, the road goes through Chitwan district, connecting from Bharatpur to Narayanghat. The proposed alternative would be on the opposite side, in Tanahun district. This route would cross the Kali Gandaki and Seti rivers coming from the west, enter West Nawalparasi, and then connect to Gaidakot via Devghat.
