Meeting Between Minister Ghising and Swiss Ambassador
A courtesy meeting took place between the Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Kulman Ghising, and the Ambassador of Switzerland to Nepal, Daniel Meuli. The meeting was held on Thursday at the Ministry located in Singha Durbar.
Discussions on Cooperation and Support
During the meeting, Ambassador Meuli congratulated Minister Ghising and wished him a successful term. Their discussions focused on the progress of current projects supported by Switzerland, potential areas for both short-term and long-term cooperation, Swiss investment, and general bilateral relations.
Minister Ghising's Priorities and Requests
Minister Ghising thanked the Swiss government for its development assistance to Nepal. He outlined the new government's main priorities, which include holding elections, rebuilding public and government structures damaged during the recent protests, and establishing good governance to inspire hope among the youth. Minister Ghising specifically requested Swiss support in several areas: promoting electric vehicles, encouraging the use of electricity for household cooking instead of fuel, adopting tunnel technologies used in Switzerland for Nepal's road transport, developing green hydrogen energy, and providing training to create jobs through small-scale industries.
Ongoing Projects and Future Support
Currently, with Swiss support, programs related to small irrigation projects, technical assistance for bridges and the Siddhababa Tunnel, and employment-oriented skill development training are being implemented. Ambassador Meuli assured that the Swiss government is always ready to support Nepal in the fields of energy and infrastructure development.
