Civil Service is the Backbone of Governance: Chief Secretary
The Government of Nepal's Chief Secretary, Ek Narayan Aryal, has stated that the civil service is the backbone of the country's governance system. He made this remark during a program in Kathmandu held on the occasion of Civil Service Day. He explained that this day serves to strengthen the feelings of responsibility, accountability, and dedication that civil servants have towards the nation and its citizens.
Vital Role in Effective Governance and Development
Chief Secretary Aryal highlighted the critical role the civil service machinery plays in ensuring the smooth flow of public services, promoting good governance, and fostering development. He emphasized that it is essential for the effective implementation of all government policies and programs. He also claimed that civil service employees have made significant contributions to the economic, social, and physical progress the country has achieved so far.
Adapting to Modern Challenges
Aryal pointed out that the civil administration has remained capable even during difficult and challenging times. However, he stressed the need to move beyond the traditional "office and paper-based" system. He urged for the adoption of information technology to advance towards providing digital services to the public.
