'No Cable Car Group' shuts Mechi Highway

Morang, January 28 — The 'No Cable Car Group' has shut down the Mechi Highway and Tamor Corridor on Tuesday in protest over the recent clash at Baludanda in the Pathibhara area on January 25.
Protesters began blocking the roads early this morning, halting the movement of motorcycles and auto-rickshaws.
The Mechi Highway includes areas from Taplejung to Phidim in Panchthar, and extends to Ilam and Charaali in Jhapa.
Meanwhile, the Tamor Corridor stretches from Taplejung to Phidim in Panchthar and reaches Mulghat in Dhankuta, linking to Dharan and Chatara via Bhedetar.
The Mukkumulung Struggle Committee, Cable Car Construction Struggle Committee, and Kirat Yakthung Chumlung, among other organizations, have demanded an immediate halt to the cable car construction, treatment for the injured by the state, and the release of two individuals arrested on January 25.
The police had detained Laxman Limbu and Chandra Sagar Limbu on January 25 from Kaflepati during the protests.
