New case set to be filed against Rabi Lamichhane in Rupandehi
Butwal, January 16 — A new case is being prepared to be filed against Rashtriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President and former Deputy Prime Minister Rabi Lamichhane at the Rupandehi District Court.
This comes after he was released on bail by the Kathmandu District Court on Wednesday in connection with a cooperative fraud case. The case is related to the Supreme Cooperative fraud in Butwal, and authorities are preparing to file it on Thursday.
The police had already submitted a report to the District Government Attorney's office last Friday, recommending that Lamichhane be named as a defendant in the case.
Premraj Paudel, the Chief of the District Government Attorney's office in Rupandehi, informed that the final preparations for the case filing were underway, adding, "The case will be filed by this evening." He also mentioned that if there were any technical issues, it might be filed by Friday.
Following a supplementary investigation into the Supreme Cooperative fraud case in Butwal, the police have submitted an investigation report on 14 individuals, including Lamichhane and former DIG Chhabilal Joshi, to the District Government Attorney's office in Rupandehi.
DSP Bijay Pandit of the Area Police Station,Butwal confirmed that the report included 28 old and 14 new individuals, totaling 42 people against whom the case would be filed.
He added that some individuals and charges were different, and discussions were ongoing at the government attorney's office regarding the details. The police have recommended that charges be brought against those involved in cooperative fraud, organized crime, and money laundering.
