Jay Trophy Final: Police defeats Army by 28 runs
Birgunj, January 16 — Nepal Police Club defeated Tribhuwan Army Club by 28 runs in the Jay Trophy Men's Elite Cup Final, held from January 14 to 16 in Birgunj.
Nepal Police Club declared their first innings at 133 runs, with Kushal Bhurtel top-scoring with 51 runs. However, it was Shahab Alam's brilliant bowling performance, where he claimed 7 wickets for 37 runs, that restricted Police Club to a modest total.
In reply, Tribhuwan Army Club posted 170 runs, with Bhim Sharki contributing a solid 58 runs. Sagar Dhakal was the standout bowler for Nepal Police Club, taking 5 wickets for 78 runs to keep the Army Club’s score in check.
In their second innings, Nepal Police Club set a target of 103 runs after being dismissed for 139 runs. Bhurtel once again played a key role, scoring 45 runs. However, Basir Ahamad (5/49) and Shahab Alam (5/75) curtailed Police Club's progress.
Chasing a target of 103, Tribhuwan Army Club’s batting crumbled. They were bowled out for just 74 runs in 29.2 overs, with Sagar Dhakal taking a match-winning 6 wickets for 35 runs.
Imran Sheikh’s 28 runs were the only notable contribution in Army Club's chase.
Sagar Dhakal was named Player of the Match for his outstanding bowling performance, claiming 5 wickets in the first innings and 6 in the second.
