DSP at central jail transferred over alleged manipulation of Bhutanese refugee case
Kathmandu, December 30 — In connection with the alleged manipulation of the Bhutanese refugee issue, the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) at the central jail has been transferred.
DSP Jiban Niraula, who was stationed at the prison's security, has been transferred to Kathmandu Valley Police Office in Rani Pokhari .
A case against Bechan Jha has been registered at the Kathmandu District Court, with statements from the defendants ongoing. Most of the defendants in the refugee case, who are under custody, are currently held at the central jail.
According to a senior officer from the Police Headquarters, DSP Niraula pressured those in custody to name higher-ranking officials during their statements. The officer stated, “It was found that DSP Niraula pressured the detainees to mention the names of people who were not yet revealed in the investigation.”
In light of the refugee issue, DSP Niraula has been transferred to the Valley Police Office in Rani Pokhari, and DSP Subash Khadka has been sent to the central jail, where he was previously stationed in the Valley Police Office.
