Nepal Airlines' domestic flights halted after grounding of Twin Otter

Kathmandu, December 24 — The grounding of Nepal Airlines' only operational Twin Otter aircraft has led to a complete halt in domestic flights.

Although two Twin Otters were operational, one has been grounded since May.

The grounding of the other Twin Otter from Sunday has caused the suspension of all domestic flights.

Nepal Airlines Corporation spokesperson Ramesh Poudel explained that the aircraft was grounded due to a technical issue.

"One of the two Twin Otters has been grounded for some time. The other was grounded after a problem was detected with its engine," he said.

Nepal Airlines has stated that some procedural issues remain to be resolved before the aircraft can undergo repairs.

Discussions are also ongoing about whether the engine from the grounded aircraft can be used for another.
