Tribhuvan University employees protest over 7-point demands

Kathmandu, December 17 — Employees of Tribhuvan University have become agitated raising seven demands. They have staged protests in front of campuses across the country, including at the office of the Vice Chancellor.
They have set a schedule to hold a one-hour sit-in until December 20.
According to Chhatra Karki, the president of the Tribhuvan University Employees Union, they demand immediate permanent status for office assistants, drivers, and all contract staff who have been working at the university for years.
Karki mentioned that the protests were initiated after the agenda was presented before the Senate meeting but was not discussed or passed.
Additionally, they have called for an immediate upgrade for nursing and technical staff in accordance with the Nepal Health Service Act, immediate advertisement for vacant positions, and resolution of issues related to the employees' benefits.
The employees also demand the assurance of one rank promotion for staff who have worked in the same position for a long period, the implementation of a system for paying accumulated special leave and retirement benefits to all employees, the restoration of previously taken away service benefits, and the resolution of issues for casual and daily wage workers to ensure their services.
On December 12, employees raised these concerns during a university assembly, but the proposals were not discussed. Following that, the employees protested outside the assembly, shouting slogans against Prime Minister and Chancellor KP Sharma Oli.
