Factionalism in Nepali Congress: MP Sharma warns of party disaster before 2027
Kathmand, December 10 — Member of Parliament from the Nepali Congress Sunil Sharma has stated that the establishment within the party is pressuring Shekhar Koirala and his faction, and that the Nepali Congress might face a disaster before 2027 elections.
In a press conference on Tuesday, he challenged the idea of capturing the party and moving forward by pressuring the Shekhar group, calling it a "daydream."
He reminded that when Girija Prasad Koirala was the party president, Sher Bahadur Deuba was given a respectable position within the party. He also challenged the treatment of Shekhar Koirala, who had received 41 percent of the votes in party's general convention, by stating that such behavior of neglecting him should end.
"If they continue this attitude, the party will face misfortune. The Congress might face a disaster before 2027," he warned. He also mentioned that he would be organizing programs across the country against this, with an event scheduled for December 20 in Dhangadhi.
Leader Sharma also shared information about the boycott of the meeting and provincial conference in Koshi Province, saying, "After Shekhar Da was dominated and prohibited in some way there, we spoke out strongly. The President later said that Congress is a democratic party, and people have the right to oppose and speak up."
Praising party president Deuba, he also mentioned that he felt the spirit of BP Koirala alive in Deuba.
"Sher Bahadur Da worked with BP Koirala. The soul of BP Koirala is somewhere in Sher Bahadur Deuba," he said, adding, "There are people around him who have never even won an election. They are the ones who have caused problems."
