Durga Prasain admits to fabricating document about PM Oli's investment in Cambodia
Kathmandu, November 29 — Medical entrepreneur Durga Prasain has admitted that the document he made public, claiming that Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had invested in a telecom company in Cambodia, was "false." While giving a statement to officials from the Central Cyber Bureau, he acknowledged that the document was fabricated.
Referring to Prasain's statement, an investigating officer said, "The document was fabricated by a YouTuber, and I only made it public."
Prasain, who had previously held a press conference claiming he had paid ten million rupees to prepare the document, has now denied making such a payment. In his statement, he said, "I did not make any such payment."
Currently, the Central Cyber Bureau under the Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB) has obtained a court order to investigate him under the Electronic Transactions Act. Prasain was arrested on the November 19.
The CIB's investigation against him has expanded, and they are now looking into four additional charges.
The police are investigating Prasain for fabricating false documents and uploading them on social media, in relation to the alleged investment by Prime Minister Oli in a Cambodian telecom company.
The initial investigation indicates that the document was uploaded by Bhuwan Bhushal. Prasain had shown the document to Ishwar Pokharel "Safal," who lives in Cambodia, during a video call.
Authorities involved in the investigation state that photocopy of the Prime Minister's citizenship certificate as shown by Prasain and the original citizenship of the Prime Minister do not match.
The police are now investigating Prasain not only for cybercrime and forgery but also for criminal benefit, organized crime, and money laundering.
