Three arrested for alleged involvement in honey trap scheme

Kathmandu — Police have arrested three individuals accused of involvement in a honey trap scheme.

Those arrested are identified as Samriddhi Magar (25) of Ilam's Mai Municipality-1, currently residing in Naya Thimi, Bhaktapur; Dipendra Darji (30) of Kavre's Bhumlu Rural Municipality-4, living in Swayambhu, Kathmandu; and Barsha Darji (25), also from Naya Thimi, Bhaktapur.

According to the police, Barsha contacted a medical service provider online on November 21, requesting wound dressing services at her residence. She allegedly lured the victim to her room, engaged in physical contact, and later threatened to accuse him of rape. Using this threat, she and her accomplices, Samriddhi and Dipendra, blackmailed the victim and extorted money.

Acting on this information, officers from the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office in Teku arrested Samriddhi and Dipendra on Tuesday, followed by Barsha on Wednesday from Madhyapur Thimi Municipality-3, Bhaktapur.

Police recovered one check worth NPR 75,000 issued in Barsha Darji's name from NIC Asia Bank, NPR 20,500 in cash, and four mobile phones during the operation.

The suspects have been transferred to the Bhaktapur District Police Office for further investigation under charges of criminal extortion.
