UML demands special municipal assembly in Pokhara
Pokhara, November 13 — Elected representatives from the CPN-UML have once again gheraoed the Pokhara Metropolitan City today. The UML has been protesting for the past week since the executive meeting decided to remove contract employees.
During Wednesday's demonstration, the UML demanded a special municipal assembly. Party leader Radhika Shahi informed that a formal letter requesting the assembly would be submitted on Thursday.
"On Thursday, the deputy mayor will come. After consulting, we will submit the written request," she said.
The UML holds a majority in the municipal assembly, while the executive is controlled by the Nepali Congress.
The mayor of Pokhara, Dhanraj Acharya, was elected from the CPN (Unified Socialist). To call a special municipal assembly, 25% support is required.
