Bagmati Province splits and expands ministries

Makwanpur, November 12 — The Bagmati Provincial Government has increased the number of ministries. In a cabinet meeting held on Tuesday, the government decided to split the existing 13 ministries in the province, creating a total of 14 ministries.

According to government spokesperson and Minister for Internal Affairs and Law, Suraj Chandra Lamichhane, the meeting approved the reorganization of ministries and the redistribution of responsibilities. He informed that the meeting also decided to establish a new ministry called Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation.

However, Lamichhane clarified that the distribution of ministerial responsibilities has not yet been finalized. Chief Minister Bahadur Singh Lama is expected to assign responsibilities for the new ministries according to the revised structure.

In Bagmati Province, there has been a non-departmental ministerial position for the past 110 days. A minister appointed by Chief Minister Lama on July 24 has yet to be assigned any responsibilities.

After the government was fully formed on July 30, with a vote of confidence, the Chief Minister appointed 7 ministers from the Nepali Congress and 6 ministers from the CPN-UML to the 13 ministries. However, Congress leader Madhu Kumar Shrestha has not been assigned any responsibility as yet.
