Deputy Registrar declares withdrawal of contempt case against Bar president
Kathmandu, October 3 — Deputy Registrar of the Supreme Court, Gobinda Ghimire, has announced his decision to withdraw the contempt case filed against Gopal Krishna Ghimire, President of the Nepal Bar Association.
Deputy Registrar Ghimire had prepared a report regarding the contempt case against Bar President Ghimire. However, he announced the withdrawal of that report through a Facebook status last night.
"The Bar is the voice of the people. It is a defender of democracy. I would like to inform you that I am withdrawing the report submitted against its leadership," he wrote on the social media platform.
Expressing his desire not to become anyone's "pawn," he stated that he would formally submit his application when the court reopens. The court is currently closed for Dashain holidays. He mentioned that he would submit the application as soon as it reopens. Since his application is on behalf of the Supreme Court, it will be up to the bench to decide whether to accept the withdrawal or not.
Today marks the Ghatasthapana of Dashain, and there is a public holiday. Ghimire wrote another status prior to this, stating, "For 364 days, I have acted like an obedient dog. I want to be free for just one day." Four hours after posting this status, he announced the withdrawal of the report he had prepared against the Bar President. The case was scheduled for hearing on October 17.
