Youth activists march for climate justice in Lalitpur (photos)

Kathmandu, September 21 — A group of youth has organized a rally in Jawalakhel, Lalitpur, demanding climate justice. Named the People’s Climate March 2024, the rally saw dozens of participants carrying various banners and placards while chanting slogans.

They emphasized that developed countries are primarily responsible for pollution caused by minerals, petroleum, and industrial emissions, and that nations like Nepal are bearing the brunt of this. They called for developed countries to compensate nations like Nepal.

The participants also opposed the notion that developed nations should provide financial assistance to low greenhouse gas-emitting countries like Nepal as a form of debt. This march in Nepal was organized in the context of the Global Week of Action in South Asia.
