PM Oli lauds women leaders for enhancing local bodies' credibility

Kathmandu, January 3 — Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has praised the active role of female representatives in establishing the legitimacy of local governments and enhancing their effectiveness in service delivery.

Speaking at the "She Leads Icon" program in Kathmandu on Friday, PM Oli stated that women representatives have taken the lead in preserving the dignity and establishing the legitimacy of municipalities and rural municipalities.

He further added, "While in the past, the literacy level of daughters was lacking, today women have reached positions of governance, which is a significant achievement of political change."

PM Oli emphasized that the presence and active participation of women representatives have proven that the claim of 'no change in the system' is false. "If women awaken, society changes," he remarked. "Women having equal rights is a constitutional and legal right, and we must ensure that we reach a place where all such equality is granted."

PM Oli also mentioned that while the accomplishments are not enough, 40% of local representatives are women, which is a progressive step. "This presence must be increased," he stated.

The Prime Minister acknowledged that women possess more compassion, love, and affection, and their roles have resulted in excellence and success in various fields.

During the event, 27 selected women representatives from various local governments were honored, along with three outstanding women representatives, who were given the Icon Award.
