Investment promotion workshop concludes in Bangkok
Kathmandu - In a bid to publicizing investment opportunities in Nepal and to establish contacts among the business persons of Nepal and Thailand, the Embassy of Nepal, Bangkok organised an investment promotion programme in Bangkok on last Tuesday. The event was organised in coordination with the Federation of Thai Industries.
The workshop was attended by large number of business entrepreneurs from both Nepal and Thailand, media persons, representatives of Federation of Thai Industries, Board of Investment of Thailand, Thai Chamber of Commerce, Thai-Nepal Chamber Commerce, Non-Resident Nepali Association, Thailand and Thai-Nepali Association participated in the programme, among others.
Welcoming all the participants, Vice Chairman of the Federation of Thai Industries Kriengkrai Thiennukul encouraged the participants to create strong business relations between Nepal and Thailand.
In his opening remarks Ambassador Dr. KhagaNath Adhikari spoke about the opportunities available for investors in Nepal. He said that Nepal now has stable Government which is committed to making effective arrangements for security of foreign investment, and encouraged the business community to make investments in Nepal.
Addressing the gathering, Chairman of the Federation of Thai Industries Chen Namchaisiri said that Nepal can export Nepali tea, medicinal herbs, handicraft items, raw materials to Thailand, and import electrical goods, consumer goods, garment products etc. from Thailand.
Executive Committee Member and Chairperson, Women Entrepreneurship Development Committee, FNCCI and Leader of the Nepali delegation Kamala Shrestha also spoke about the business opportunities in Nepal.
Chairman of Thai-Nepal Chamber of Commerce Krishna Shivakriskul shed light on the investment opportunities in Nepal. During his presentation, Mr. Krishna said that GDP of Nepal is low, however, Nepal is rich in its untapped natural resources, and called upon all the businessmen to invest in Nepal which would help increase Nepal's GDP.
Joint Secretary of Nepal Investment Board Uttam Bhakta Wagle highlighted investment opportunities in Nepal including institutional arrangements for FDI, policy reforms on FDI, investment process, sector overview, and projects and project ideas.
After the formal part of the programme, business entrepreneurs from both countries had a fruitful B2B session. Members of Nepali business community, including women entrepreneurs from FNCCI, participated in the programme. During the B2B session, the business persons from both sides got to know each other, introduced their businesses to each other, exchanged views on how to promote businesses/investments for mutual benefit, and established contacts for long-term business cooperation. They also established business-linkages for future cooperation.
