CPN-UML Chief Whip Mahar States Protest to Continue Until PM Responds on Border Issues

Kathmandu. CPN-UML Chief Whip Ain Mahar has stated that the protest in Parliament will continue until the Prime Minister responds in Parliament regarding Nepal-India border issues. Mahar said the protest would continue while speaking to journalists after an all-party meeting called by Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) on Monday.

He informed that the meeting discussed RSP Chairman Rabi Lamichhane's India visit and the issue of ending the deadlock in Parliament. However, Mahar stated that RSP did not have a clear stance on both issues.

“Intense discussions were held on two issues. First, RSP Chairman Rabi Lamichhane provided information about his India visit. We raised the issue of EPG regarding that. The previous day, the Prime Minister spoke about border disputes. Was the border issue discussed the next day? He tried to say something about it. But a clear answer did not come,” he said.

He also stated that no agreement was reached on ending the parliamentary obstruction. He said that they could not agree because Chairman Lamichhane responded that he could only reach a decision after discussing with his party and the Prime Minister.

Mahar said, “It is not our desire to obstruct Parliament. We said the Prime Minister must come to Parliament immediately and respond. Regarding responding in the sovereign Parliament, the Chairman said we will discuss within the party, but the Prime Minister should not respond now.”
