Initiative launched to retrieve encroached land

Birgunj, June 8: Birgunj Metropolis-31 has launched initiatives to protect the land belonging to a zoo, which is under construction here.

The ward began fencing the area covering some 50 hectares of land. More than half of the fencing has been over so far.

Chief conservation officer at the Parsa National Park, Ram Chandra Khatiwada, informed that the area belonging to the zoo was found encroached by the locals.

"Encroachment of the zoo area has affected fencing. So, we are coordinating with concerned stakeholders to speed up the conservation of the public property," he informed.

The construction of the zoo began in 2079BS at a cost of Rs 1.07 billion.

Mayor of Birgunj Metropolitan City, Rajesh Man Singh, said the encroached area would be identified and cleared gradually.

After holding an all side meeting, a notice was issued on Friday to remove the structures built illegally on the encroached land.

"Even the survey office was requested to demarcate the public and personal lands to help conserve the zoo," Singh added.
