Historic objects present evidence of human settlement in Dohani, Kapilvastu since 400 BC

Kapilvastu - Objects of historic and archeological importance found during the excavations at Dohani area, a historic site in Kapilvastu present the evidence of beginning of human settlement here since 400 BC. 


Further study about objects uncovered at various times of excavations on the site by a team (joint) comprising archeologists from home and abroad under the management of Department of Archeology, Ministry of Culture, ended with this revelation. A scientific test was conducted on relics of conventional clay pots and other materials and idols which were unearthed from the site. 


The site locating at around four kilometers east from the Kapilvastu's district headquarters Taulihawa and around 20 kilometers west from Lumbini, the birthplace of Gautam Budhha, is being used as a transit point by pilgrimages and business community arriving to visit Kudan, Araunrakot, Tilaurakot and Lumbini. 


According to Department Spokesperson Ram Bahadur Kunwar, further excavations are going on here with the technical and financial support from different international organizations including the UK-based Arts and Humanities Research Council and the Japanese Funds-in-Trust for the Preservation of the World Cultural Heritage. 


The team involved in the excavation at Dohani is preparing to release findings of the study on February 23. 
The same team had already a conducted a survey at Kudan, Nigalihawa, Sisahaniya, Dohani and Sagarhawa area. It had also excavated the Lumbini area for three year (from 2011) and come up with new facts and findings about the history in regard with Lumbini, archeologist Kosh Prasad Acharya said. 
Kapilvastu, part of Province 5 in a new federal setup, is home to the highest archeological sites in the entire country.
