NTNC to carry out study of pangolins

Ratnanagar, Chitwan - National Trust for Nature Conservation with support and coordination of the District Forest Office, Chitwan, and Green Forest Programme, is going to carry out study of pangolins at different districts including Chitwan. Pangolin, the mammal, is on the verge of extinction. 
The Study is going to be carried out with an objective of making a conservation area after finding out the situation of pangolins. 
Investigation Officer of National Trust for Nature Conservation, Sauraha, Santosh Bhattarai, said that in the beginning, the study will be carried out in Chitwan and later in Makawanpur and Gorkha districts. 
He further said that a camera trapping team would be deployed in jungle today itself for the same. The study would be carried out from Kayerkhola to Bhandara block of Chitwan. 
Pangolins, also known as scaly ant eaters, are one of the most illegally traded species on the planet, killed for their meat and scales. The meat and scales of pangolins is traded at expensive price in international market. 
Out of eight species of pangolins found in the world, only two types of pangolins are found in Nepal.
