Komal Prasad Mainali as a Successful Business Leader

Providing what the people living in Nepal want by leading businesses is his expertise. He has led the Mainali Business Concern, Mainali Saw Mill and Mainali Business Concern Pvt. Ltd and contributed to nation building by creating jobs, providing quality materials, paying taxes to the government, and utilizing the resources of the country. As his contributions are worthy of being talked about, this article is an attempt in that regard. 

Born in 1966 in Sarlahi of Southern plains of Nepal, Komal Prasad Mainali completed his early education in his home district and came to Kathmandu for higher education. He started his entrepreneurial career while he was studying at college. Mainali Business Concern is one of his ventures, which was established in 2016 as a sole proprietorship business with its office in Maharajgung, Kathmandu. While Mainali is the chief leading the organization, there are 15 full time staff and up to 50 people who are employed on a temporary basis, as required. The company imports Silk Plaster and Mix Art from Europe and sells those in the local market in Nepal. Silk Plaster is a decorative wall covering made from natural silk and cellulose fibers. Its primary function is to provide a luxurious and textured finish to the wall, enhancing aesthetics. It’s valued for its durability, flexibility and eco-friendly composition. The product has gained popularity for its unique appearance and tactile appeal, ease of application on walls, visual appeal, softness while touching, durability of ten years, ability to cover cracked walls and possessing the characteristics to be transferred to new places. Exterior Color Mix Art is about using different colors together for building exteriors. It is another focus of the Concern. Silk Plaster and Exterior Mix Arts material and its related products are being sold by 102 businesses all over Nepal, being distributed by the Mainali Business Concern. In order to make these businesses and the artisans using them familiar with these products, the Concern mobilizes technicians on-site and trains them. 

Since 2009, Mainali has worked in another vertical by supplying construction materials related to sanitary and kitchen products, through Mainali Business Concern Pvt. Ltd. The company has supplied materials to various projects and individuals to construct their buildings. The company has made commode, urinal, pedestal basin, jacuzzi, dry stream, enclosure, kitchen sink, taps and other materials available to the customers in its own or the manufacturers’ brands. These processes have helped to ensure quality, create a distinct identity, and market the products. The network of businesses, artisans, other technicians and company representatives that Mainali has established to distribute goods and services throughout Nepal have displayed his strength as a businessman. Mainali has led in creating strategies in marketing, distribution, fixing the price and other major aspects of the company’s operations. Mainali has also been engaged in Nepal Chambers of Commerce, an industry group of traders, helping to create a better business environment for all the stakeholders which will ultimately help them expand their businesses. 

While his masters level of education in management was ongoing, Mainali started his business venture by establishing Mainali Saw Mill. He was engaged in this sector for 25 years and during that time provided windows, doors, furniture and various types of wood as per customers’ demand. During the course of this business, he purchased timber from various parts of Nepal, especially the Terai region in the southern plains, processed them and sold them to his customers. The company has provided employment opportunities for up to 60 people. He was involved in the Federation of Nepal Forest Products Entrepreneurs, an industry group and actively contributed to the planting of 125,000 tree saplings in the eastern part of the country. He has also played a role in imparting business training to entrepreneurs. The Federation has felicitated him for such contributions. 

The tasks that these companies performed primarily helped the customers to fulfill their needs. The government got the taxes from the businesses he operated, helping it to fulfill its obligations to the people. Creation of employment opportunities is another significant contribution. It is a sign of a successful entrepreneur to persevere in the business sector for decades and expand his business all over the country and Mainali has passed that test with flying colors. He was engaged in industry groups related to his businesses and helped in the creation of a better business environment. These have highlighted his business and leadership potentials and they have benefited the nation, where he operated his businesses.
