Student Unions begin Hunger Strike against fee hike

KATHMANDU, Aug 27: The Student Unions close to the Socialist Front have started a Hunger Strike as the Engineering Studies Institution did not take back the fee hike.

Student Unions including ANNISU, ANNISU (Revolutionary), and Socialist Students Union have begun the Hunger Strike, and will continue with it until the Institution takes back the fee hike, informed ANNISU Chair Sudesh Parajuli.

According to the decision of the Institution’s fee implementation committee on August 10, the fee was increased to 7 lakhs 75 thousand rupees. Student Unions close to the Socialist Front have been holding protest programs at various stages demanding the abolition of the fee hike.

They held a press conference on August 24 and gave a 24-hour ultimatum to abolish the fee hike. However, they claim that instead of being serious, the institution is ignoring their movement and demands.
