Smuggled gold weighs only 60 kg and 789 grams

KATHMANDU, Aug 14: The gold smuggled from the Tribhuwan Airport and seized by the Department of Revenue Investigation. is confirmed to weigh only 60 kg and 789 grams. It was previously estimated to weigh around 1 quintal.

The director of the Mint Department of Nepal Rastra Bank, Thaneshwor Acharya, informed that the gold was confirmed to weigh 60 kg and 789 grams after taking it out of the brake pad and weighing it.

According to Acharya, the weight was lower than estimated as a result of taking it out of the brake pad. He also informed that the weight of the gold will be reduced further after smelting it.
