Fake academic certificate scam: One more medical officer arrested
KATHMANDU, Aug 11: The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police has arrested one more person on the charge of obtaining a fake academic certificate to become a doctor.
According to the Spokesperson of the CIB and Superintendent of Police (SP), police apprehended Poonam Thapa from Kathmandu today.
The CIB has launched a special operation against those preparing fake academic certificates. With this, the number of accused in the scam has reached eight so far including Nepali Congress parliamentarian Sunil Sharma.
Meanwhile, police nabbed a woman on the charge of fraud. Kamala Devi Shrestha, 55, residing at Itahari Sub-Metropolitan City-9 in Sunsari district, was arrested for duping people through social networking sites.
A team of police deployed by the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office held Shrestha on the charge of fraud. Shrestha had asked the victim to send Rs 92,000 to pay as a customer fee for the gifts to be sent from the UK.
The woman, according to the complaint filed by the victim, had claimed to be a citizen of the UK while communicating with the victim through social networking sites.
According to the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office's Spokesperson and SP Ravindra Regmi, the accused has been brought to the Office for further investigation.
