Speaker Baburam Gautam resigns
BIRATNAGAR, August 1: The Speaker of the Koshi Provincial Assembly, Baburam Gautam, has resigned from his post. He gave his resignation to secure the majority for the formation of a new coalition government.
Speaker Gautam arrived at the Biratnagar Provincial Assembly Secretariat from Kathmandu today and submitted his resignation letter.
With his resignation, the parties are preparing to go to the Provincial Chief’s Office to claim the new Chief Minister.
The coalition is going to submit a claim to the Provincial Chief to make the Nepal Congress Parliamentary Party leader, Uddhav Thapa, the new Chief Minister.
Speaker Baburam Gautam was forced to resign by the coalition after it didn’t get enough support from RPP in the formation of the government.
With the resignation of Gautam, the majority required to form the government in the 93-member provincial assembly has reached 47. Gautam is a provincial assembly member elected from CPN Maoist Centre.
